In breast augmentation surgery, one of the key decisions is the placement of the implants, which can be under the muscle (submuscular), partially under the muscle (dual plane), or above the muscle (subglandular). The choice depends on two main factors: the amount of natural breast tissue and the size of the implant.
If you have more than two centimeters of breast tissue covering the implant, placing it above the muscle may result in a more natural look and movement, as the muscle won't interfere with the implant's movement. However, if you have less breast tissue, placing the implant under the muscle is often recommended to provide additional coverage and avoid visibility of the implant, reducing the risk of issues like rippling or a "double fold." Dual plane placement is a hybrid approach that offers the benefits of both submuscular and subglandular placements, ideal for certain patients who need more coverage while avoiding some of the limitations of a full submuscular approach.
